…and Boulder Dash (1984) was partly based on the little-known arcade game The Pit which is rather similar to the well-known arcade game Dig Dug (1982; no idea which came first or if they were developed independently).

I think Techdirt’s response to that article was very well-balanced between both of our positions.
They need to make the copyright law easier to understand. It’s confusing enough for adults, so just forget about expecting somebody under eighteen to even come close to understanding it.
I agree, something will give in time. I hope that all this complex copyright laws will be at least simplified so everybody can understand it.
